LECTURE BY Goodluck Iredia

Subject:chemistry Topic:Radioactivity Name:Goodluck Iredia
Definition: Radioactivity is the spontaneous emission of an element. That element can be called a radioactive element
Now,an element may have stable and radioactive isotopes, and these are stable isotopes of carbon respectively.

Characteristics of Radioactivity (1)A radioactive substance emits radiation continually (2)It ionizes the gases through which it passes (3)it affects photographic plates
Types of radiation (1)alpha-(a-):a-rays are fast moving streams of positively charged particles (2)Beta-(B-):B-rays are fast moving streams of electrons (3)gamma-(y-):y-rays are not particles but electromagnetic waves similar to visible light
Uses of radioisotopes. (1)for medical use (2)used for sterilization (3)for industrial use (4)used for agricultural purposes (5)used as mass spectrometer
Conclusion: We should know that one of the most observed experiment;that a crystal of a uranium salt was spontaneously emitted by a chemist called BECQUEREL
